Sanitation Safety Plan (SSP)
The Sanitation Safety Plan (SSP) is an approach recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2014.
It is based on risk assessment and management throughout the wastewater supply chain, with the objective of:
- Protecting human health
- Safeguarding the environment
- Promoting the safe use or disposal of wastewater and sludge
It identifies stakeholders, exposed groups and control measures in order to prevent situations that may compromise safety and lead to contamination through direct or indirect exposure.
EU Directive 2024/3019 strengthens the legal framework for these concerns.
The methodology applied by CMMartinho Consulting is based on WHO guidelines.
